QUANTIC & His Combo Barbaro

Biography

British DJ/producer Quantic played guitar in various rock bands as a teenager, but it was his subsequent switch to house and broken beat that helped launch his musical career, especially after the 7" recording "We Got Soul" arrived in 2000. (Born Will Holland, Quantic is also part of Quantic Soul Orchestra, as well as the soul-folk-dance duo the Limp Twins.) In 2001, Quantic's full-length debut, The 5th Exotic, was released by the Tru Thoughts label, followed one year later by Apricot Morning. After briefly pausing in 2003 to record QSO's Stampede (for which he played organ, bass, guitar, and saxophone, among other instruments) and the Limp Twins' Tales from Beyond the Groove, Holland returned to his solo efforts with 2004's Mishaps Happening. Quantic Soul Orchestra's Pushin On was issued one year later, and 2006 proved to be particularly busy for the prolific DJ, as he released a compilation (One Off's, Remixes and B Sides), a reissue of The 5th Exotic, and another new Quantic album, An Announcement to Answer. In 2008 he could be heard tinkering with a blend of dub and '70s Latin on Death of the Revolution, which also marked his first release under the Flowering Inferno moniker. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi

Kruder & Dorfmeister, Rodney Hunter, Das Jahr der Taube

Biography

Cover of Cover of G-StonedThe trip-hop production duo of Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister has gained more fame for its stellar remixes and DJ sets than as producers of its own work. By engineering reworkings of tracks by a cast of artists ranging from William Orbit and Bomb the Bass to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and United Future Organization, the Austrian duo became one of the most respected names in the dancefloor community.

Kruder & Dorfmeister's standing increased with the issue of two acclaimed 1996 DJ albums: Conversions for Spray/BMG and DJ Kicks for Belgium's Stud!o K7. After forming their own G-Stone Records, the pair found a distribution deal with Quango and released the G-Stoned EP in mid-1996. Though they remained busy with remix work and DJ gigs during 1997, it wasn't until late 1998 that another release appeared, The Kruder & Dorfmeister Sessions. Dorfmeister also appears in the side-project Tosca with Rupert Huber, while Kruder released an album on G-Stoned in 1999 as Peace Orchestra. Ludovico Einaudi

Biography

Pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi was born in Turin, November 23, 1955. His mother, also a pianist, would play for him as a young child, planting the seeds for what would become a fruitful, illustrious career. Einaudi studied under Luciano Berio at the Conservatory of Milan, graduating with a diploma in composition. In 1982 his talents would win him a scholarship to theTanglewood Music Festival. The experience opened Einaudi's ears to new ideas like minimalism, world music influences and aspects of pop music. He spent the next several years composing for the ballet, including Sul Filo d'Orfeo (1984), Time-Out (1988) and The Wild Man (1991). Einaudi turned a corner in 1996 with the release of his first collection of solo performances, entitled Le Onde. This record started Einaudi down the path towards becoming one of Europe's best selling pianist/composers. 1999's Eden Roc and 2001's I Giorni, both for BMG, captured the solo piano world's attention, both remaining best-sellers for years to come. While seemingly at the top of the composition world, Einaudi ventured into the world of film composition, a journey punctuated by his Best Film Score award in 2002 for his work on Luce Die Miei Occhi. Einaudi noted interviews during that period that he missed concretizing, and began performing again regularly. New works blossomed from this effort, including 2004's Una Mattina and 2006's Diario Mali. 2007 welcomed Einaudi's seventh studio album, titled Divenire, where he is accompanied by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. ~ Evan C. Waldeck

Klaus Waldeck's musical career started in Vienna, Austria when he took piano lessons at the age of six. When he was fifteen his music life was put on hold when he destroyed a Bechstein piano while rewiring it.

Waldeck later went to law school (though his heart was still with music). He finished law school and became a copyright lawyer. Then he heard about a case that changed his focus from law back to music.

"It was during the time when George Harrison got sued for ripping off an old Motown tune," Waldeck recounts, "I realised the way forward was to work a melody until it didn't belong to anyone anymore."

He eventually stopped focusing on law altogether and concentrated on music.

Soon after his decision to leave law completely he moved (along with all of his electronic music equipment) to England. While in London, he met his vocal counterparts, former Incognito singer Joy Malcolm and Brian Amos, who worked on projects such as Pressure Drop. The three have been with each other ever since.

In 1996, Waldeck returned to Vienna, Austria and produced the Northern Lights EP, quickly gaining international attention through its biggest hit, Aquarius. A successful full length album, Balance of The Force, followed in 1998. Later that year, Balance of the Force - Remixed was released.

Waldeck has produced a multitude of albums while still in Austria. Unfortunately, however, many of them are out of print and are very scarce. The out of print albums include The Night Garden Reflowered, Balance of the Force, Balance of the force Remixed, Northern lights, and This Isn't Maybe.
Sometimes described as trip-hop Klaus's songs have a very calm and laidback theme. They often consist of mellow vocals sung either by Joy Malcolm or Brian Amos (although sometimes they consist of only Klaus's instrumentals). While some people have mixed feelings towards the male-female vocal fluctuations, others feel that they offer versatility in the sound while still maintaining the unique style of his music.

BOOZOO BAJOU -YMA

Biography

Featuring producers Florian Seyberth and Peter Heider, Boozoo Bajou are a downbeat duo from Nuremberg, Germany known for blending inspirations like reggae, dub, Cajun music, folk, jazz, and pop. They first appeared in 1998 via the Stereo Deluxe label and the single "Night Over Manaus." The exotic lounge number drew the attention of Richard Dorfmeister who hired the duo to remix "Chocolate Elvis," a 1999 single from Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber's project, Tosca. That same year, Bajou's jazzy single "Under My Sensi" became the chill-out tune of choice. It landed on their 2001 debut Satta! a dub meets electronica effort suitably named after the Jamaican Patois term for "relax." No surprise, then, that their 2003 mix CD Juke Joint skillfully blended Groove Armada, Burnt Friedman, Gregory Isaacs, Paul Weller, and John Lee Hooker, or that the same year's Remixes collection found them working with names like Common, Mousse T., and Thievery Corporation. Their sophomore release Dust My Broom landed in 2005 with country-rock hero Tony Joe White appearing on the single "Keep Going," while Jamaican deejay U-Brown traded lines with Fat Freddy's Drop singer Joe Dukie on the track "Take It Slow." A second volume of Juke Joint followed in 2006 and then the duo took on a new genre by exploring the introspective '70s sound of California. Adding Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Jackson Browne to their long list of influences, the band's 2009 effort Grains became their most organic album to date. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi by Answers
