BONOBO / FLOATING POINTS / APPLEBLIM & KOMONAZMUK , Eyesdown - Boomkat music download
Bonobo does his jazzed-out thing with Andreya Triana backed with remixes from Floating Points, Appleblim & Komanazmuk and Warrior 1. 'Eyesdown' is a melancholy nod towards the swing garage sound with live drums swung into a swirling atmosphere of Ra-esque synths and keys, and it's honestly the best thing we've ever heard from him. It's only appropriate then, that they rope in the man whose sound they are taking a large cue from. Floating Points does his stealth-euphoria treatment on 'Eyesdown', adding gorgeous Vangelis style synths and muting the rhythm to a lithe shuffle. His arrangements here are just masterly, dissecting the track into distinct sections with a glorious narrative arc. Meanwhile Warrior 1 maintains the quality with a samba-charged Funky killer full of steady-burning tech-house flourishes sounding like Carl Craig meets Bubblez before Appleblim & Komanazmuk go in slow and low with a string-laden and dubby disco house revision.

SKELETONS, Smile - Boomkat
Released: Feb 2010
Catalogue Number: UNFOLDCD10
The handiwork of Benedic Lamdin (aka Nostalgia 77), Skeletons is, in fact, an imaginary jazz band . The artist himself fesses up to this: 'These musicians never stood in the studio together, they just passed through my house or left some scraps of sound behind after sessions we were working on.' The project started life as material recorded for a library music company, playing into the hands of 'the current vogue for a certain style of African jazz', as Lamdin puts it, in a refreshing bout of honesty. Apparently Lamdin got so absorbed in this process of musical forgery a whole LP emerged, and if the producer wasn't so darned honest, you might never know that this wasn't the work of a genuine, and wholly exciting spiritual jazz troupe. The compositions are approachably tuneful, and even if you're not the greatest jazz devotee in the word, the solid funk, robust production, and perhaps above all else, exceptional drum and percussion presence keeps this record exciting."
